THE SCALLIONS

Mike and Shawn Franklin offer an 'avant-garde power pop', that uniquely comprises their sound. The Scallions have been recording steadily for over fifteen years. The two Franklin brothers describe their sound as bits of catchy pop mixed with occasional abstract sounds and instrumentation. Recordings began in September 1990 and were made for their own enjoyment. Influenced by the San Francisco cult giants- The Residents, Mike and Shawn wanted to create and emulate similar sounds. During the years that followed, the band recorded over one hundred songs.

It wasn't until 1999 that the band decided to officially release some material. Tom Timony, a former owner of The Residents label, Ralph Records, aided the process and in 2000 they put out their first commercially released album, Mud Pie. They also contributed to The Residents tribute album, F.E.S.T.E.R. Mud Pie contained a collection of previous songs, some of which were reworked and remixed. Following its release, Mud Pie was promoted with interviews, reviews and radio play.

In September of 2002, The Scallions assembled a band and opened up for Public Enemy in the Massachusetts area. The band also released some independent singles and contributed to other artists’ projects during this period. Under the Slam Jamz roster, Chuck D selected The Scallions for release to retail outlets as the band prepares their first national release. The album entitled. Agony through Ceremony is the follow up to Mud Pie, and reflects the hardships they faced after their uncle’s death in 2000. Current projects abound, as they work to increase their fan base and add various guest spots on their recordings. The anticipated projects release is planned as a CD/DVD package.
