Artist Bio
JOE BAD X

Joe Bad X has a unique sound to bring to the SLAM label on the FREEDOME subsidiary.

Named after Joel Hopkins, Lightnin’s brother and of course a blues musician Joel Badeaux grew up in Houston, his family roots on his father’s side are in the Mississippi Delta (both Louisiana and Mississippi), where the blues was born.

Joel got exposed to good music in the first place. His dad (Ed Badeaux) worked in radio as a DJ in the 1950s and again for the Houston Pacifica station in the 1970s. He also edited ‘Sing Out!’ magazine in the late 1960s—this was the major left wing, socialistic folk music magazine. He was a folk musician too, off course. His parents used to stay up at Pete Seeger’s house (his 90th birthday special was on PBS last month). Joels' uncle produced albums by Texas blues legend Lightnin’ Hopkins (also Mance Lipscomb), with his dad doing in the album cover photos. My dad also promoted concerts for Lightnin’ and Mance locally in Houston. He also recorded major label artist Lucinda Williams in his home studio back when she was unknown. So this is where I get my interest in folk, blues, and the guitar….

With that , honesty and ability are almost equally important to Joel. As a perfectionist, especially when it comes to music, JOE BAD X a modern Doctor of Blues plays all the instruments--synth, bass, electric guitar, drum machine on material that strays from the blues, but is related or based in blues. Other material will also makes this blues recording artist very unique.

All are acoustic guitar and voice recordings, and all are cover songs from many different genres of music—classic rock, folk, blues, alternative, progressive, grunge, gothic, metal, and rap. What they are probably most similar to is the Rick Rubin produced Johnny Cash albums, But what got the attention of Chuck D was the blues -folk interpretations of early Public Enemy rap songs 'Youre Gonna Get Yours and Raise The Roof' penned and recorded by Chuck D on 1987s debut Yo,Bum Rush The Show album.

With a blues type of riff that is played on most of the song shows the skill recorded on these tracks More unique rap covers are planned as JOE BAD X has joined with the SLAMjamz label signed by Chuck D checking out Joels Youre Gonna Get Yours on YOU TUBE. There are some other great acoustic cover songs to be heard from JOE BAD X…and very different from all the other stuff out there.

The relaunch of ‘String Theory’is the debut blues record by JOE BAD X kickin it into a higher gear as far as music and the guitar in the new millennium

So it might be time to take the Olds 98 for a drive down to the Mississippi Delta….

New roots blues folk music for the millennium masses from Joel Badeaux aka JOE BAD X.
