Enfield avant-pop band the Scallions release new album

[ 12/02/2009 ]

The Scallions, the only Connecticut band to have released a record with help from rapper Chuck D, are back with a new album.

"Sounds of Vinyl and the Past," the latest from brothers Mike and Shawn Franklin, follows their 2006 Slam Jamz release, "Agony Through Ceremony." The new record is a mix of new songs and tracks from the experimental power-pop band's archives, which span 20 years of music.

Available for now on vinyl and as a digital download from Mind's Ear Records, "Sounds of Vinyl and the Past" features contributions from Brian Jackson (who has played with Gil Scott-Heron), Brian Poole of Renaldo and the Loaf, and Nolan Cook from the Residents' touring band -- a major influence on the Scallions.

The standard vinyl edition goes for $19.99 through amazon.com; there's also a deluxe edition for $49.99. Contact Shawn at Mind's Ear for availability.
